MANCHESTER UNITED vs WIGAN

Man Utd  5
Rooney (28), Carrick (32), Rafael (45), Berbatov (50), Valencia (75)
Wigan  0
30 December 2009 Old Trafford Attendance 74,560

Wayne Rooney was the bright spark, while Rafael and Antonio Valencia also impressed in a second 5-0 win over Wigan this season. Rooney, Michael Carrick, Rafael, Dimitar Berbatov and Valencia all found the net as United’s excellent run of big wins against the Latics continued unabated. Roberto Martinez’s men simply had no response to an imposing Reds display.

Ratings
Tomasz Kuszczak Must have really felt the cold. So little to do, but on the few occasions he was called into action he did all that was asked of him.

Rafael Excellent display. Penetrated in attack and displayed usual enthusiasm for defensive work. Made one goal, scored another. He’s going to be a cracking player.

Wes Brown Didn’t have a lot to do because Wigan provided so little threat in attack, but he was commanding nonetheless. Never really looked troubled.

Nemanja Vidic Solid throughout although Hugo Rodallega playing up front on his own rarely threatened the Serbian and partner Wes Brown.

Patrice Evra He’s taken to captain duties exceptionally well, and this was another performance where the Frenchman led by example.

Antonio Valencia Constant outlet, always available. Played his part in the first two goals, a clever cut-back for Carrick’s strike and the finish for his goal was incredible.

Darren Fletcher This wasn’t the most demanding task the Scot has faced, but he and Carrick made sure United dominated and allowed the front men to do the damage.

Michael Carrick Fine strike for the goal and alongside Fletcher he kept the pressure on Wigan, pinning the visitors back with his probing passes.

Ji-sung Park His movement and ability to find space allows United to attack much more freely. An impressive display from the Korean winger.

Wayne Rooney He was right on it. When he’s in this form there is noother striker like him in the world. Central to all of United’s best work, scoring and creating.

Dimitar Berbatov Moments of sheer class, like the pass that started the move for Carrick’s goal, and he scored for the second game in a row.

Substitutes

Danny Welbeck
(for Berbatov, 78 mins) Had one or two half-chances and was involved quite a lot for the short time he was on the field.

Anderson (for Vidic, 78 mins) Straight into midfield, with Carrick going to centre-back. Showed energy but was hard to impose himself with the contest all but over.

Fabio (for Evra, 78 mins) Similar tale; too late to impose himself - a sign of things to come with both da Silvas on the flanks?

Twin Planets Denominated = Now there are 12!

(this news was published on August 17th, 2006)
As first reported by Bad Astronomer Phil Plait, the IAU will (a week from today) vote on a new definition of planet which will denominate 12 planets in our Solar System instead of 9, with many more – perhaps millions – waiting to be discovered!
Lia and Alan discuss the proposals before the IAU on the swings.  Checking the mail, they happily report that it looks like Pluto and Charon will be designated as the first twin planets!
Why Pluto-Charon when our own Moon is larger than both Pluto and Charon?  Because the barycenter of the Pluto-Charon system is outside Pluto, while, for the Earth-Moon system it is 1700 km below the surface of the Earth.  Phil points out that, with the Moon receding from Earth at 4 cm per year, in about 40 million years [correction: make that about 3 billion years] the Earth-Moon barycenter will be outside the Earth and the Moon will then be designated a planet (that is, if the IAU doesn’t redefine planet before then).

Pluto-Charon system     Earth-Moon system

Below are the 3 new planets, and some planet candidates.

Later Lia and Alan prepare for travel to Prague for the conclusion of this planet-shattering IAU meeting.

The first-ever pictures of planets outside the solar system have been released in two studies.

Harimau Malaya looking to end 20 year gold drought

Super Baddrol fires Malaysia into finals

Baddrol was the hero as the Malaysia overcome stiff resistance from Laos last night to triumph 3-1 and enter the Sea Games football final. he gave Malaysia the lead with a brilliant effort in the 13th min but the Under-23 side looked to have undone themselves with a timid display in the second half, resulting in Laos equalizing and making the running.
But Baddrol restored Malaysia's lead in the 80th min, and Safiq confirmed Malaysia's place in the final with an opportunistic goal five min from time.
Up next for Malaysia, who are looking to end a 20-years wait for gold, are Vietnam who beat Singapore 4-1 in the other semi final.
The final is also a chance for Malaysia to atone for their misbehavior when the two sides meet in a group game last week which Vietnam won 3-1.
Personally i think Malaysia deserve the win especially at the first 10 min of second half where Malaysia was look solid rock at the defense and also in the attacking. This young squad is a perfect mixture which can produce superb world class performance. They deserve gold medal in this event. And I can say it loud "MALAYSIA BOLEH".

Owen sends W-Cup signal

England striker Michael Owen hit a Champions League hat-trick on Tuesday to give national coach Fabio Capello a timely reminder of his talent as Manchester United finished top of their group. Owen, who turns 30 on Dec 14, demonstrated his finishing class with a well-taken treble to seal United’s 3-1 victory at Wolfsburg to dump the Germans out of the Champions League and boost his World Cup chances.
It was Owen’s first Champions League hat-trick since joining Manchester United last summer.
After his first-half header, Owen slid home his second on 83 minutes before producing a superb effort in stoppage time to claim his third.
Michael Owen is one of the best strikers in the last third of the field in terms of his movement, his positional play and also in terms of his finishing,” insisted United manager Alex Ferguson.
And the Scot hinted a place in United’s first-choice side may well beckon for Owen, who is England’s fourth-highest scorer with 40 goals for his country.
The 29-year-old won the last of his 89 England caps in March 2008 in the 1-0 defeat to France and could yet make Capello’s 2010 World Cup squad based on this sort of form.
At the end of the day, the evidence is on the football field and he gave plenty of that tonight,” said Ferguson.
I have no worries of playing him, he has improved steadily in training. Normally we play with one striker in Wayne Rooney, but here we had two strikers in Daniel Welbeck and Michael and I am delighted with Michael’s performance.”

German Shepherd Dog (GSD)

The German Shepherd Dog is well proportioned and very strong. The GSD has a sturdy, muscular, slightly elongated body with a light, solid bone structure. The head should be in proportion to its body, and the forehead a little rounded. The nose is most often black however, blue or liver still do sometimes occur, but is considered a fault and can not be shown. The teeth meet in a strong scissors bite. The dark eyes are almond-shaped, and never protruding. The ears are wide at the base, pointed, upright, and turned forward. The ears of puppies under six months may droop slightly. The bushy tail reaches almost to its hocks and hangs down when the dog is at rest. The front legs and shoulders are muscular and the thighs are thick and sturdy. The round feet have very hard soles. There are three varieties of the German Shepherd: rough-coated, long rough-coated, and the long-haired. The coat most often comes in black with tan, sable or all black, but also can come in blue, liver and white, but those colors are considered a fault according to most standards. White is not an acceptable color for the German Shepherd, however they are now being recognized as a separate breed, called the American White Shepherd. A piebald color has also occured in a single GSD bloodline which are now being called Panda Shepherds. A Panda is 35% white, the remainder of color is black and tan, and has no white German Shepherds in its ancestry.

Temperamant

Often used as working dogs, German Shepherds are courageous, keen, alert and fearless. Cheerful, obedient and eager to learn. Tranquil, confident, serious and clever. GSDs are extremely faithful, and brave. They will not think twice about giving their lives for their human pack. They have a high learning ability. German Shepherds love to be close to their families, but can be wary of strangers. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when they feel it is necessary. Often used as police dogs, the German Shepherd has a very stong protective instinct, and are extremely loyal to their handler. Socialized this breed well starting at puppyhood. Aggression and attacks on people are due to poor handling and training. Problems arise when an owner allows the dog to believe he is pack leader over humans and or does not give the dog the mental and physical daily exercise they need to be stable. This breed needs owners who are naturally authoritative over the dog in a calm, but firm, confident and consistent way. A stable, well-adjusted, and trained dog is for the most part generally good with other pets and excellent with children in the family. They must be firmly trained in obedience from an early age. German Shepherds who have passive owners and or who's instincts are not being met can become timid, skittish and may be prone to fear biting and develop a guarding issue. They should be trained and socialized from an early age. German Shepherds will not listen if they sense that they are stronger minded than their owner, however they will also not respond well to harsh discipline. Owners need to have an air of natural authority to their demeanor. Do not treat this dog as if he were human. Learn canine instincts and treat the dog accordingly. German Shepherds are one of the smartest and most trainable breeds. With this highly skilled working dog comes a drive to have a job and a task in life and a consistent pack leader to show them guidance. They need somewhere to channel their mental and physical energy. This is not a breed who will be happy simply laying around your living room or locked out in the back yard. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. The German Shepherd is also a popular show and family companion.

Height, Weight
Height: Dogs 24-26 inches (60-65cm.) Females 22-24 inches (55-60cm.)
Weight: 77-85 pounds (35-40kg.)

Exercise
German Shepherd Dogs love strenuous activity, preferably combined with training of some kind, for these dogs are very intelligent and crave a good challenge. They need to be taken on a daily, brisk, long walk, jog or run alongside you when you bicycle. While out on the walk the dog must be made to heel beside or behind the person holding the lead, as in a dog's mind the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human. Most shepherds love to play ball or Frisbee. Ten to fifteen minutes of fetching along with daily pack walks will tire your dog out quite nicely as well as give him a sense of purpose. Whether it is ball chasing, frisbee catching, obedience training, participation in a canine playgroup or just taking long walks/jogs, you must be willing to provide some form of daily, constructive exercise. The daily exercise must always include daily walks/jogs to satisfy the dogs migration instinct. If under-exercised and or mentally challenged, this breed can become restless and destructive. Does best with a job to do.

Camping in Malaysia

Most National Parks in Malaysia provide jungle camping sites.  There are also many mountain and beach sites which are suitable for camping.

In picking a camp site, always take note of the weather conditions.  The rainy or monsoon season during December to February  renders some camp sites along the river trails of Taman Negara inaccessible.  Always check with relevant Park authorities first.

The lower altitudes of primary jungles like Taman Negara and Kenong Rimba Park in Pahang; Endau Rompin in Johor; Mulu and Lambir National Parks in Sarawak are humid, so your choice of tents should allow for good ventilation.  All enclosed nylon tents with sewn-in groundsheets are not recommended as they tend to condense air inside.  Cotton tents get heavy after absorbing water. When camping on high altitude locations such as Gunung Jerai in Kedah; Gunung Korbu in Perak; Gunung Tapis and Gunung Tahan in Pahang, choose a site sheltered from the wind and avoid the higher peaks when thunderstorms occur.

A self-contained tent with aluminium poles and stakes is best for mountain camping.
Only a basic setup is needed when camping at the marine parks or beaches in the country, such as Pulau Payar in Kedah; Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan; Pulau Redang, Terengganu; Pulau Tioman and Cherating in Pahang and Tunku Abdul Rahman Park in Sabah.  A hammock or sleeping bag may do very well.

Although most of the National Parks and private tourist facilities furnish and rent out camping gear, it may be wiser to bring along basic camping necessities.  Remember to check on restrictions which may apply due to ecological or other reasons.  If unsure, contact the park authorities.

OTHER CAMPING SITES IN MALAYSIA

  • Gunung Jerai - Kedah.
  • Pulau Payar marine Park - Kedah.
  • Gunung Korbu Park - Perak.
  • Port Dickson Beaches - Negeri Sembilan.
  • Mersing Marine Park - Johor.
  • Redang Marine Park - Terengganu.
  • Kenong Rimba Park - Pahang.
  • Gunung Tahan - Pahang.
  • Gunung Tangga Lima Belas - Pahang.
  • Tioman Marine Park - Pahang.
  • Cherating Beach - Pahang.
  • Gunung Tapis - Pahang.
  • Gunung Alab - Sabah.
  • Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park - Sabah.
  • National Parks around Kuching area (lowland and hill forest) - Sarawak.
CAMPING TIPS

Whether camping in the damp rainforests, on sunny beaches or atop mountain peaks, there are a few easy environmental tips to keep in mind to protect and preserve Malaysia's camp sites.

  • Never cut down vegetation in order to make way for a camp site.
  • Always choose a clear camping site freer of debris and away from rotting trees.
  • Nights in the rainforests may get cooler than expected so bring along a waterproof jacket to keep you warm, as well as protection from the rain.
  • During rainy periods, do not camp too near a river or at low areas.
  • Whenever possible, try to avoid overusing popular camping areas and select an alternative location in order to minimise soil disturbance.
  • Bring along reusable plastic cups and plates.
  • Rubbish is to be collected and carried away when you leave, not simply buried.

Chelsea lose at City

Manchester City did United a favour on Saturday evening, beating league leaders Chelsea at Eastlands. What's more, it was former Red Carlos Tevez who struck the winner.

The result, coupled with United's emphatic 4-0 win at West Ham, means Sir Alex's men are now just two points behind Chelsea.

Boss hails goal-den youngsters

United’s young charges put last week’s Champions League defeat to Besiktas well and truly behind them with a solid display against a near-full strength Tottenham Hotspur side and booked a spot in the Carling Cup semi-finals.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who was once again watching from the stands as he completed his two-game touchline ban, stuck with a number of those youngsters who had been harshly criticised after the Besiktas defeat last week – in fact eight of those who started against the Turks kept their place. The only new names on the teamsheet were Tomasz Kuszczak, who remained in goal following an impressive display in the win at Portsmouth, Ritchie De Laet, filling in at left-back, and Dimitar Berbatov, who made his first appearance for a month after an injury.

Gibson gave United the advantage on 16 minutes with a low 20-yard drive past Gomes, before notching his second with a superb curling effort from a similar distance after an excellent move involving Dimitar Berbatov and Danny Welbeck.

"We had to defend really well - Tomasz [Kuszczak] made a good save from Defoe and Vidic had a couple of great tackles which kept us in it. We took time to get going, but when we got the first goal we improved," Sir Alex told MUTV.

"We played much better controlled football in the second half and Anderson and Gibson really started to impose themselves on the game.

Sir Alex defends young stars

The boss defiantly states that his intent to play them against Tottenham in the Carling Cup on Tuesday will not be swayed.

Opportunities were given to six players under the age of 22: Danny Welbeck (then 18), Federico Macheda (18), Rafael (19), Gabriel Obertan (20), Anderson (21) and Darron Gibson (22).

“It will be the same players that played on Wednesday,” he said of his team for Tuesday’s visit of Harry Redknapp’s side. “Their future is well marked out, I think.”

“Of course they will grow from that experience. I was confident of playing them, and they had every right to play. They will play on Tuesday, too.”

Delivering the message

Ryan Giggs embarked on a different kind of international break last month, when he travelled to Sierra Leone in his role as a UNICEF ambassador.

He witnessed at first hand how funds raised by the United For UNICEF partnership are being used to combat the spread of HIV in the West African state. It’s a major challenge - currently 935,000 people in Sierra Leone have HIV, following a 75% increase in new infections since 2002.

Raising awareness is a key objective - only 17% of young people in Sierra Leone understand how to protect themselves against HIV.

In an effort to improve this percentage, UNICEF have used the power of football - and United in particular - to communicate with young fans in Sierra Leone. Giggs and his team-mates Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand appeared on billboards and television commercials in the country, prior to Ryan’s visit in person.

“The main purpose of my trip was to help educate young people in Sierra Leone and give them the knowledge to prevent the spread of HIV,” says Ryan.

Kangaroos may hold skin cancer cure

While surfing through the net, i found out an interesting story about cure of cancer. Hope it aso might interest you.

According to Australian scientist, kangaroos may provide the key to a potential treatment to prevent skin cancer.

Researchers at Melbourne University are investigating whether a DNA repair enzyme found in the jumping marsupials could provide a model for preventing DNA damage linked to many skin cancers in humans.

"Other research teams have proposed a 'dream cream' containing the DNA repair enzyme which you could slap on your skin after a day in the sun," scientist Linda Feketeova said.

"We are now examining whether this would be feasible by looking at the chemistry behind the DNA repair system."

Feketeova and colleague Uta Wille, who are working in collaboration with scientists at the University of Innsbruck in Austria, are investigating whether sun-damaged human DNA can be repaired using the kangaroo model.

Using a mass spectrometer instrument, they are simulating the impact the kangaroo enzyme would have on DNA which would otherwise develop skin cancer.

"We were quite surprised that the DNA's repair process also resulted in a number of chemical by-products, which have never been seen before," Wille said.

"Our plan is to study these products to understand if the DNA repair enzyme could be incorporated into a safe and effective method for skin cancer prevention."

Kangaroos are not immune from skin cancer but their special repair enzyme, which is also present in some bacteria and fish, gives their skin an additional protection that humans lack.

"As summer approaches, excessive exposure to the sun's harmful UV (ultraviolet) light will see more than 400,000 Australians diagnosed with skin cancer," Feketeova said.
